Lesson overview:
In this lesson, students practise talking about abilities using can and can’t. Designed for A1–A2 learners, the lesson helps students describe practical, creative, work-related, and physical skills in a simple, natural way. Students brainstorm everyday verbs, read a short job ad, rewrite a funny fake CV, and finish with a speaking task where they build a survival team for a Camino de Santiago trip.
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- talk about things they can and can’t do;
- ask simple questions about other people’s abilities;
- use everyday skill verbs in practical contexts;
- describe a team’s strengths using can and can’t.
Lead-in:
Start with a fun question: What are your useless superpowers? Students tell a partner two things they can do that are funny but not very useful. This sets a relaxed tone and naturally leads into the lesson topic: talking about abilities, talents, and everyday skills.
