Lesson overview:

In this lesson, students learn how to understand road signs by looking at their shape, colour, and meaning. They explore warning, prohibition, mandatory, information, stop, and give-way signs, then use road safety vocabulary in realistic driving situations.

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

  • identify common road sign categories;
  • understand and use road safety vocabulary;
  • describe driving rules with the first conditional;
  • follow and give examiner-style driving instructions.

Lead-in:

Start with the driving-themed pictures on page 1 and ask students what they have in common. Then let them compare driving in the host country and Ukraine, talk about road signs they already know, and share moments when they saw a sign they didn’t understand.
