Lesson overview:

This lesson gets students thinking about how they learn and which habits actually help. They explore practical learning strategies, read about effective study methods, work with useful vocabulary, and compare their own routines. The lesson also introduces adverbs of frequency, giving students plenty of opportunities to describe how often they use different learning techniques.

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

  • describe their learning habits and preferences;
  • use vocabulary for effective learning strategies;
  • place common adverbs of frequency correctly in sentences.

Lead-in:

Students start by discussing recent learning experiences, from something they picked up for work to a skill they abandoned or a useful app they discovered. The questions make the topic personal straight away and encourage students to reflect on what already works—or doesn’t work—for them.
