Lesson overview:
In this TV-based lesson, students explore an awkward family dinner scene from Fleabag and learn how humour, pauses, sarcasm, and short replies shape everyday conversation. They describe characters, watch for mood and meaning, and practise informal expressions from the scene.
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- describe people using nuanced adjectives;
- understand informal expressions from natural dialogue;
- recognise sarcastic or indirect replies;
- create short dialogues using the target phrases.
Lead-in:
Start by asking students whether they have watched Fleabag and what they know about the main character. Then introduce the family dinner situation: Dad and Godmother’s engagement meal, tense family relationships, and a new priest at the table. This gives students enough context before watching.
