This free Halloween ESL lesson is built around ghost stories for ESL students: short scary stories about haunted houses and mysterious apparitions. After reading, students tell a ghost story of their own.
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- talk about ghosts, haunted houses and superstitions
- understand short ghost stories and answer questions about them
- use words like haunted, eerie and apparition
- tell a story with the past simple and past continuous
It works well in the week before Halloween, with teens and adults alike.
Lead-in:
Students start by talking about ghosts, haunted houses and superstitions. Do they believe in ghosts? What would they do if they saw one? The questions get everyone speaking before the first story.
